Sleepy Unicorn Zipadee-Zip: A Parent's Guide to Calmer Bedtimes

Start with the right size, not the right routine

Before you plan a single step of your bedtime routine, get the fit right. The Sleepy Unicorn Zipadee-Zip is sized by both weight and height, and the brand advises double-checking your baby's measurements before ordering. If your baby falls between two sizes, choose the smaller size.

This matters because a proper fit is what makes the starfish design work: you should feel slight resistance in the wingspan. Too loose and the cozy, secure feeling fades; too tight and your baby may be uncomfortable. Use the size chart as your starting point, then confirm the wingspan feel once the garment arrives.

Sleepy Unicorn Zipadee-Zip size options

• Sleeping Baby Sleepy Unicorn Zipadee-Zip Swaddle Transition: XS 3-6 months (8-13 lbs, 18-26 inches) The smallest listed option; check both weight and height before choosing it.

• Sleeping Baby Sleepy Unicorn Zipadee-Zip Swaddle Transition: S 4-8 months (12-19 lbs, 25-29 inches) A good checkpoint if your baby is growing out of the XS range but still within these measurements.
• Sleeping Baby Sleepy Unicorn Zipadee-Zip Swaddle Transition: M 6-12 months (18-26 lbs, 29-33 inches) Matches many babies who are wiggling and rolling but not yet walking.
• Sleeping Baby Sleepy Unicorn Zipadee-Zip Swaddle Transition: L 12-24 months (26-34 lbs, 33-37 inches) The largest listed size; confirm your toddler is within both ranges before sizing up.

A simple bedtime routine with the Zipadee-Zip

The Zipadee-Zip is intended for sleeping only and should not be used for walking or running. Build your routine around that boundary: the garment goes on as part of wind-down, not as playwear.

1. 1. Check the size and fit before bedtime: Confirm your baby's weight and height against the size chart. If between sizes, choose the smaller size. Once on, check for slight resistance in the wingspan.
2. 2. Put the Zipadee-Zip on during wind-down: Make it part of the calm part of the evening, after diapering and before stories or songs. The starfish design provides a cozy, secure feeling without limiting range of motion.
3. 3. Use it for sleep only: The product is intended for sleeping only. When your baby is awake and moving around, switch to regular clothing.
4. 4. Keep it for naptime and nighttime: The Zipadee-Zip keeps babies comfy and covered during both naptime and nighttime sleep.

Why the Sleepy Unicorn design supports the swaddle transition

The Zipadee-Zip is described as a safer alternative once baby starts to wiggle and roll. Its starfish design gives the cozy, secure feeling of a swaddle without limiting range of motion, which is why it can fit into a swaddle transition routine. The product is designed based on safe sleep recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

That said, the supplied information does not include a step-by-step weaning plan or a recommended age to stop swaddling. Use your own judgment and your pediatrician's guidance for the timing of any transition. What the Zipadee-Zip offers is a wearable option for sleep once your baby is mobile.

Zipadee-Zip fit tips that make a difference

• Measure before you order: The brand specifically advises double-checking weight and height measurements before ordering. Use a flexible tape and a recent weight.
• Size down if between sizes: If your baby's measurements fall between two sizes, choose the smaller size for a closer fit.
• Check the wingspan: A proper fit will have slight resistance in the wingspan. If the wings feel slack, the garment may be too large.
• Keep it for sleep: The Zipadee-Zip is intended for sleeping only and should not be used for walking or running.

What the Sleepy Unicorn Zipadee-Zip is made of and how to care for it

The fabric is listed as cotton or a cotton blend, with a 0.5 TOG rating. That rating suggests a lightweight layer, but the supplied information does not include washing instructions, dry-cleaning guidance, or temperature limits. Check the care label on the garment you receive for the manufacturer's directions.

Because the TOG is 0.5, you may need to adjust the base layers underneath depending on your nursery temperature. The supplied information does not specify a room temperature range, so use your own comfort judgment and avoid overdressing.
